October 19, 2006 – Waycross area residents will have an opportunity to attend a public hearing to give their input on the Division of Aging Services (DAS) 2007 State Plan renewal Friday, October 27, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Southeast Georgia Regional Development Center, 1725 South Georgia Parkway in Waycross.

Today is the Official Kick-Off of Red Ribbon Week
October 23, 2006 – Today is the official kick-off of Red Ribbon Week, a national week-long drug prevention and awareness campaign celebrated in thousands of schools and communities in Georgia. Red Ribbon Week activities including neighborhood parades and motorcades, high school pep rallies, and poster contests will take place from October 23 -31.

Help for depression is available and now much easier to access
October 20, 2006 – Depression Awareness Month, a national observance celebrated in October, serves to remind people that help is available and in Georgia is now much easier to access thanks to the first statewide crisis and access line, 1-800-715-4225, established in July. Last month, more than 20,000 people called the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week hotline to be connected to mental health services throughout the state.

Governor Perdue proclaims fourth annual Breast Cancer Prevention and Awareness Day
October 12, 2006 – Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue joined breast cancer survivors and state public health officials today, Thursday, October 12, at the state Capitol to proclaim Wednesday, October 18 the fourth annual Breast Cancer Prevention & Awareness Day and to increase awareness about the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer.

DHR sponsors adoption videoconference and party during National Adoption Month
October 26, 2006 – Approximately 15 children with the hope of finding a permanent family and prospective adoptive families will have the opportunity to meet at an adoption party and videoconference on Saturday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Georgia Department of Human Resources’ (DHR) Division of Family and Children Services’ (DFCS) Adoption Unit is sponsoring the event.

October 26, 2006 – In recognition of National Adoption Awareness Month, the Georgia Department of Human Resource’s Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) will host the 11th Annual "Celebrating Adoption" event at Zoo Atlanta.
