The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) was formed in July 2009 as part of the reorganization of the former Georgia Department of Human Resources, which had served Georgia since 1972. DHS delivers a wide range of human services designed to promote self-sufficiency, safety and well-being for all Georgians.

The department is one of the largest agencies in state government with an annual budget of $1.8 billion and 10,000 employees. DHS includes the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), the Division of Aging Services (DAS), the Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) and the Office of Residential Child Care (RCC).
